Dr. Raman Preet is an accomplished global health leader with over 15 years of experience in advancing public health education, research coordination, and diversity advocacy. Currently serving as Senior EU Research Coordinator at the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, Umeå University, Sweden, she plays a pivotal role in managing HORIZON Europe health research projects and coordinating the EU Climate-Health Cluster. A passionate educator, Dr. Preet has been teaching global health, oral-systemic health, and leadership in public health since 2009 across medical, dental, and public health programs worldwide. She also contributes her expertise to esteemed organizations including the World Health Organization (as Temporary Advisor), TDR at WHO, and the European Commission as an EU Expert Evaluator. A staunch advocate for equity and inclusion, she was awarded the 2023 Equal Opportunity Prize by Umeå University’s Medical Faculty. Her academic credentials include an MPH in Global Health from Umeå University and an MSc in Dental Public Health from UCL, with additional executive training from Harvard Kennedy School.

Dr. Raman Preet holds a strong academic foundation in dentistry and public health, with advanced specialization in global health and dental public health education. She earned her Master of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Global Health from Umeå University, Sweden (2007–2009), and a Master of Science (MS) in Dental Public Health and Education from University College London (UCL), UK (2003–2004), designed specifically for dental professionals advancing into public health domains. Her journey began with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Dasmesh Institute of Research & Dental Sciences, Faridkot, India (1993–1998), a five-year professional program culminating in licensure to practice as a dental surgeon. This diverse academic background underpins her expertise in both clinical and population health, equipping her to lead interdisciplinary initiatives across education, policy, and research in global health.

Dr. Raman Preet has led and contributed to several high-impact, multi-country global health research initiatives, primarily in collaboration with the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health at Umeå University. Her work spans climate-health linkages, infectious diseases, and health system preparedness, often within EU-funded frameworks.

 
  • EU Climate-Health Cluster (2022–Present):
    A Horizon Europe cooperation involving six research and innovation projects aimed at enhancing the societal and policy relevance of EU-funded climate and health research. Dr. Preet contributes through strategic communications and coordination roles.

  • IDAlert – Horizon Europe Project (2022–Present):
    Focused on disease forecasting and risk mitigation through a One Health and co-creation framework, this initiative develops tools for anticipating the emergence and spread of infectious diseases due to climate change. Dr. Preet plays a pivotal role in grant coordination.

  • ECRAID-Plan – H2020 EU Project (2019–2021):
    This project sought to establish a sustainable, pan-European clinical research network for infectious diseases, including antimicrobial resistance. It represents the first of its kind in Europe.

  • ZikaPLAN – H2020 EU Project (2016–2021):
    In response to the Zika virus crisis, this global consortium of 25 institutions aimed to strengthen outbreak response capacity in Latin America and beyond. Dr. Preet managed key aspects of the project’s coordination and execution.

  • DengueTools – FP7 EU Project (2011–2016):
    A multi-country initiative focused on early warning systems, diagnostic tools, and prevention strategies for dengue, particularly in children, and the risk of its spread to Europe. Dr. Preet contributed to its cross-regional coordination and project management.

  • INTREC – FP7 EU Project (2012–2015):
    A global training initiative aimed at strengthening research capacity across LMICs through partnerships with institutions in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the US. Dr. Preet coordinated multi-regional teams and managed major grant deliverables.
