Dr. James Engelman is an experienced Physiatrist and Osteopathic Physician with over two decades of clinical expertise in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and neuromusculoskeletal care. He currently serves as the President of Brookmead Medical Associates – Osteopathic in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where he leads clinical practice focused on integrative rehabilitation and osteopathic treatment approaches. Previously, he practiced at Centrastate Hospital, providing inpatient consultations in acute care and subacute rehabilitation settings, while also conducting outpatient EMG/NCS evaluations, mentoring residents and physicians, and contributing to clinical research as both a collaborator and primary investigator. Dr. Engelman also worked with Weinerman Pain and Wellness in Philadelphia, where he introduced physiatry services and concussion evaluation protocols, guiding therapy teams in the management and rehabilitation of concussed patients. Earlier in his career, he served for 14 years at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center as an Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Attending, delivering hospital and outpatient consultative care and performing advanced neuromuscular diagnostics. His work reflects a strong commitment to multidisciplinary rehabilitation, patient-centered recovery, and advancing medical education in musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation.

Dr. James Engelman earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences (1988–1992), where he developed a strong foundation in osteopathic principles and musculoskeletal medicine. He further specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, completing advanced clinical training and maintaining active involvement with professional bodies such as the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR) and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). Dr. Engelman completed his Residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, where he trained extensively in rehabilitation medicine, neuromuscular disorders, and functional recovery. Prior to medical school, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) (1989–1991), where he also participated in Peer Health Counseling, building an early academic foundation in human movement science and patient-centered health education.
