Description

In the emergency room, the approach to undifferentiated shock begins with rapid assessment and stabilization of airway, breathing, and circulation (ABCs). Simultaneous resuscitation with intravenous fluids and vasopressors is initiated while monitoring vital signs and perfusion. A focused history, physical exam, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) help identify the underlying cause—whether hypovolemic, cardiogenic, distributive, or obstructive. Early recognition and targeted treatment are critical to improving outcomes and reducing mortality.
