विवरण

Tech Neck Syndrome is a modern condition caused by prolonged use of devices like smartphones and computers, leading to neck pain and stiffness. Ayurveda addresses this issue by emphasizing proper posture, regular breaks, and exercises to relieve strain. Herbal oils, such as Mahanarayan or Ksheerabala, are used in Ayurvedic massages to reduce inflammation and soothe muscles. Ayurvedic practices like yoga and pranayama help in strengthening the neck and improving flexibility. A balanced diet and stress management techniques are also recommended to support overall spinal health.

सारांश

  • Techno neck, also known as "text neck," is a modern syndrome characterized by neck pain and damage resulting from prolonged periods of looking down at electronic devices. This repeated stress on the neck and spine can lead to significant discomfort and potential long-term health issues. The presentation discussed the increasing prevalence of this syndrome due to the widespread use of smartphones, computers, tablets, and video games.
  • The presentation highlighted the biomechanics of text neck. The human head weighs approximately 5 kg in a neutral position. Tilting the head forward significantly increases the weight borne by the neck, reaching 18 kg at 30 degrees and 27 kg at 60 degrees. This added pressure stresses the cervical spine, supporting ligaments, tendons, and musculature, leading to pain and structural changes over time.
  • Various factors contribute to text neck, including prolonged use of mobile phones, computers, tablets, and gaming consoles. The symptoms manifest as neck pain (persistent or intermittent), upper back pain, shoulder pain, headaches (tension or cervicogenic), reduced range of motion, muscle stiffness, and poor posture. Diagnosis involves physical examinations, posture analysis, symptom assessment, and potentially imaging.
  • The presentation addressed the potential complications associated with untreated text neck. These complications include spinal misalignment, degenerative disc disease, nerve compression (leading to radiculopathy), eye strain, dry eye, and potential psychological effects, particularly in children and adolescents. Electro-magnetic radiation from devices can also contribute to various symptoms, including sleep disturbances, dizziness, and cardiac issues.
  • Preventive measures involve maintaining a natural head position, holding devices at eye level, taking frequent breaks for stretching, and using ergonomic accessories. Treatment options include physical therapy, massage, stretching exercises, and, in some cases, medication. The presentation also included an overview of Ayurvedic approaches, such as Abhyanga (oil massage), Swedana (steam therapy), and Vasti (medicated oil enema).
  • Ayurvedic treatments for text neck aim to reduce inflammation, alleviate muscle spasms, and address nerve compression. The presentation detailed the use of Greeva Vasti, a procedure involving the application of warm medicated oil within a dough ring placed around the neck. Oral medications, such as Triodashang Guggulu and Mahayograj Guggulu, were also discussed for their anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.
