Management of Poor Ovarian Reserve

Early diagnosis of Poor Ovarian Reserve is crucial to help women understand their fertility potential and explore available options. Ovarian Reserve Testing (ORT) helps determine a woman's egg quantity and quality, which guides the management plan. Lifestyle modifications, such as quitting smoking and maintaining a healthy weight, can positively impact ovarian function. Counseling and emotional support are essential for patients dealing with the emotional implications of a diminished ovarian reserve. Fertility preservation through egg freezing can be considered for women diagnosed with POR who are not ready for immediate conception. In vitro fertilization (IVF) remains the primary treatment option for many women with POR, using fertility medications to stimulate the ovaries and retrieve eggs. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists and antagonists are used to prevent premature ovulation during IVF cycles. The use of higher doses of fertility drugs during IVF cycles may be necessary for women with POR to maximize egg production.
